Flexibility was key in the planning and design of Recurly’s first virtual conference—an event that involved multiple people, businesses, and brands. The visual design system had to be flexible and adaptable, allowing for easy updates and accounting for a variety of potential logos, photography, and partner brands working together.
To achieve this balance between core brand elements and unique co-branded elements, a simple yet impactful solution was implemented—typography. We used a bold, variable font for the event title and more prominent headlines, complementing Recurly’s core typeface.
The gradients used in the backgrounds were made up of tints and shades from Recurly’s core color palette—relying less on purple and not on any single color in particular that could be associated with one brand over another. Instead, the darkest shade from the palette was used as a neutral to anchor the gradients, and mint was used as an accent color. A duotone treatment on photography from different sources made them feel more cohesive when used together.
While the typography system remained the same, web components like buttons and cards were reskinned with rounded corners, type treatments, and new colors. Customization was left for the speaker and schedule sections on the web, where subtle animation was also added.
